TIME MANAGEMENT FOR BUSY EDUCATORS
PRESENTED BY DR. MARY ANN BELL

SOLUTIONS WITH TRADITIONAL TOOLS
·        The obvious
o   Plan books
o   Large Calendars
o   Lists
·        My desk cleanup is the dramatic sweep of everything to the floor! Then I am forced to deal with every single thing that was there.
·        In/Out/Call/Write: Years ago I attended a time management presentation at my church. I do not remember the presenter to give credit. One thing suggested was to make an ORGANIZED list of things to do:
o   Take a piece of paper, your choice of size
o   Fold it into quarters
o   At the top of each space, write one of the above words, so it looks like the example.
§ In the first box list things that need doing around the house
§ Second box is for errands. I used to grab my list or jot these down when I was going out on another piece of paper
§ Call and Write are obvious…and you could change the headings of course.
·        There are lots of books about time management. One for librarians:

·         Foust also wrote two articles on the topic for The Book Report. Her suggestions include:
·         Using Post-It Notes or note cards that are color coded for different types of tasks
·         Keeping a “To Do” Folder
·         Using Planner Books
·         Apply 1 ½ Rule: Things will take one and a half times as long to do as you think
·         Have the right supplies
·         Wastebasket…”Keep close and use often.”
·         Take Breaks!!!
·         Quit beating yourself up for being right brained!!!
