I Want My Web 2_0: It's a SAFETY ISSUE!!

IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE!
- The first thing you should stringently advocate is IMMEDIATE filter override capabilities ON YOUR CAMPUS.
- This is the subject of my next article in Multimedia@Internet@School. It is titled Want Kids To Be Safe Online? LOOSEN Those Filters!
- Who should have rights?
- Principal
- Assistant Principal
- Technology teacher
- Librarian
- Counselor
- This is minimal!
- Why is this so?
- Scenario one: Student is posting worrisome content to a social networking site that suggests harm may come to self or others.
- Scenario two: Students make fake pages in the names of teachers and/or administrators
- Scenario three: Rumors are circulating that affect your campus
- Should you really not be able to access these sites from school???
- If we do not teach students to be safe and smart online, they are babes in the woods when they are at home or elsewhere without filters.
- If teachers cannot be offered staff development about these sites, how can they teach students?
